Hi,

In simple words, a vocabulary is a collection of terms.

Type: "Simple" means you have a list of terms, "Hierarchy" means you have a tree (each term may or may not contain sub-terms, which may or may not contain sub-sub-terms etc.)

Scope: "Website" means that this vocabulary is only available in the current portal. DotNetNuke is able to run multiple portals within one installation, so if you want to share the vocabulary through all of the portals you need to use "Application". If you run only one portal on this application then there is not too much difference between these two. Maybe you plan to add a second portal in the future (e.g. picture.lakesuperiornews.com) on the same installation of DNN, then you can use the vocabulary if you have chosen "Application". It is not possible to change this property at a later stage - at least not within the UI and not in a current version of DNN.

Best wishes
Michael

Hi
You can go for portal/ website if multiple portals are there in your application and they are not going to share taxonomies otherwise use application.

Thanks,

This is hard to tell. Simple means you have a simple list of terms, like

- Dog
- Cat
- Cow
- Horse

With a hierarchy you can build a tree, like

- Pets
-- Dog
-- Cat
-- Budgie
- Livestock
-- Cow
-- Pig
-- Horse
- Game
-- Rabbits
-- Deer
-- Alligator

etc.

Which one is better to use depends on your needs.

Best wishes
