other Options are using Manual install (using installl package from http://dotnetnuke.codeplex.com) or DNN installer application from http://mikevdm.com/dnn.

The second link leads to a page where we are told the DNN Installer is no longer supported.

The first link got me a zip file of a web site, which puzzled me since there was no obvious connection to SQL Server, Express or otherwise. That didn't last long. Opening the site in Visual Studio 2012 brought  the message: The web project 'XXX' requires SQL Server Express, which not installed on this computer.

Also, when I tried to compile the site, there were two errors:

Error    1    The file '/DNN7/DesktopModules/DDRMenu/Menu.ascx' does not exist.    C:\inetpub\wwwroot\DNN7\admin\ControlPanel\RibbonBar.ascx    9

and

Error    2    Unknown server tag 'dnn:MENU'.    C:\inetpub\wwwroot\DNN7\admin\ControlPanel\RibbonBar.ascx    13

if you download DNN install package, unblock the file and unzip content to your Website folder, you may browse the site and the install wizard will show up, which will guide you though the settings including database. I usually prefer an attached database, i.e. I create a blank database and a Login mapped to it with dbowner permission. The installer creates all required database objects and populates some of the tables.

That would be very nice. Can you suggest a link to an install package that would do this? Also, what do you mean "unblock the file"?
