Howdy folks:

I've been away for quite some time. I was a part of the DNN community as a user for quite some time. I put in a few DNN sites back in the day, but have been using Sharepoint (boo hiss!) in my professional work these past several years. I've dabbled a bit with Joomla, but haven't really toyed much with WordPress/Drupal.

To be honest, I'm a bit confused. I knew that the original DotNetNuke effort was commercialized a bit ago. What I'm interested in learning is whether there still exists an open platform DNN, free to use with client engagements, or whether that now falls under the commercial licensing.

I've got a small site to do for a small business client. They would benefit from a multi-tenant CMS, and it would appear that Drupal/Joomla don't really do multi-tenant without some tricks. I also looked at OrchardCMS, which appears to do Multi-tenant, but i'm not sure that group and platform has any legs. I explored it a little bit and it looks promising. But I'd hate to base my customers business on a platform where the future is uncertain.

I truly am sorry for mentioning some of the other platforms out there. But basically, I know from past work that DNN used to have an awesome multi-tenancy capability and I'd like to consider it for this engagement. I see the DNN Store is still around and that may of the products are priced significantly differently from years ago. That's ok I suppose.

Basically, I have a small business that would like to put up a new presence, SEO and multi-platform friendly (PC/Tablet/Mobile), multi-tenant, and highly interactive (modern) in its UI / templating.

Is DNN still an open source platform? Or has the licensing restricted its use in any way to just using Evoq? How much difference is there between Evoq and the free version (presuming it still exists?) Does the community still support an open source version? Or has DNN Corporate really pushed the community into paid products?

Thanks for catching me up. I'm sorry I've been away. I've been in corporate IT for quite a few years and Sharepoint (2007/2010/2012) has really been at play where I've worked.

I had many happy customers with DNN in the past. And I'd really like to find a sustainable open source .Net-based WCMS. (Please understand, some of my customers are willing to pay for professional platforms. But many small businesses know about Joomla/Drupal/Wordpress and aren't exactly choosing to pay when they know there's open source options out there.

Just wondering what the current state of DNN really is.

Thanks!

dnn Platform is still open source and free, download from http://DotNetNuke.codeplex.com or use MS Web Platform Installer.
All these forums deal with the free version.
