Hi there, anyone know what module is being used to host this forum?
http://www.dnnsoftware.com/forums
(active forums is no longer supported and I'm looking for alternatives)

this site is using old DNN Forums (dnnforums.codeplex.com), which isn't actively developed atm (although a few users continue support to keep it running).
The Open Source Team of Active Forums recently announced a new version being in development (Check out their GitHub repo.
The third option would be YAF.Net for DNN (http://dnnyafnet.codeplex.com).

Thanks for posting this question. I too am confused by the status of Forums.

It seems that the Forums module is rather orphaned, but it is core to what we want to do with a new site that will be running Evoq Engage, so what exactly is happening with the development of this?

It would appear that the old DNN forums (like this) are not being supported, that the replacement (ActiveForums) have not been updated for over a year, and that the only alternative is YAF. Is that correct?

As a brand new, non-technical, user I am very confused and any pointers as to best examples of open Forums running on DNN would be much appreciated

latest release of Active forums on https://github.com/ActiveForums/Activ... is from October 2015.
If you are using Evoq Engage, did you take a look at Discussions module, which comes with the product (it has a smaller set of features though, but integrates with gaming mechanics)

Thanks Sebastian. Yes, we are using the Discussions module. What I was hoping to find were alternative implementations of the discussion / forums / groups to see how this worked in practice. I am mainly looking for better designed layouts for threads and posts since I am not all that comfortable with the default layout and I am not sure if, and how, this can be changed. The documentation outlines the content only, not the design aspects, so I was searching the discussion boards here and on the web for feedback, and there is precious little that I can find. If you have any suggestions of best practice that you have been involved with I'd love to take a look
