With the Open Source version of DNN, is there anything that keeps me from being able to create modules for it?  I guess I'm asking are the paid versions significantly different in their infrastructure or are they the same as the Open Source, only with other modules?

As an example, say I wanted to build Active Directory Authentication.  I know it is on the paid versions.  But if I did want to build it, would it be same process as if I were going to build it on any of the versions, assuming they did not have AD?

Nothing to prevent you except your imagination and skill!

There are open source AD solutions out there as well, might not hurt to start with one of those existing projects instead of writing it from the ground up (though ground up is fine too)

John,

We've built several projects in the past few years that include Active Directory integration. As Chris mentioned the open source version is completely flexible.

If you would like to do it open source, let me know. I could help you with Dnn specific stuff and you could help me with AD stuff and together we could revive this old one https://github.com/DNNCommunity/DNN.A...

Just to add a note ... the recent changes to the DNN project mean that the Community Edition of DNN takes precedence.

My understanding is the DNN Corp is moving toward the goal the Evoq products will be simply the Community Edition plus Evoq extensions. The result of that is that Evoq will be built entirely as extensions on top of the open source platform.

So ... absolutely everything that you do with the Community Edition can be added to Evoq products!

Or as Chris said so well, the only limitations are "your imagination and skill."
