Hello all,
We have been operating on one of the DNN site that we created for last 3 months. Recently, we have started our Pingdom subscription which pings our system every 5 minutes and if it does not get a reply back in 30 seconds then it actually sends message to all the people in the list. We have started getting huge amount of messages so far and when we get a mesage, we go online and check the performance. It looks pretty cumbersome. Site has started behaving really slow and badly.

There are 2 things that we have noticed:

1. DNN is purging cache every second even though the host level setting is set to heavy caching and we have not set up any explicit setting to purge cache every few seconds. We have no idea how to stop this Delete_Cache event every second.

2. When our DBA restarts SQL Service then it comes back to normal for few hours.

I have no idea if I am looking in to two different set of problems if there is only one problem which is causing all these things to happen. The reason being that I can understand if cache is being purged every second then application has to compile again and again each time which will take a lot of time. But how come it affects the SQL?

reagrding 1. go to Host :: Scheduler and check Purge_cache job regarding 2. check the database: size of transaction log and number of records in tabled Eventlog and sitelog (shouldn't be more than a few hundred) and SearchItemWordPosition (might contain duplicates).

1. Scheduler is set to purge cache every 2 hours. it is not even enabled at this moment
2. Yes, event-log is a bog table here because we have made our own events and our all events from all the portals are being logged into same table. So It is a huge table at this moment with hundreds and thousands of the logs.

performance of eventlog is bad - that might be the main issue of your problems. export its content to a different table and test again.
