I have currently been evaluating DNN for use on my sites, for the last week or so. I have gotten it installed on my host (and my local server in an identical configuration), and I have isntalled only one additional extension, the YAF forum. My problem is that when accessing the forum remotely or locally, using the Hos Admin account, any changes made reuire an extremely long time to update! I mean an EXTREMELY long time, 30, to 60 secs is the norm, but it can take up to 2 1/2 mins when an actual change has been made (to the settings). Logging on as a client is also really slow, but appears to be faster than the admin logon. I only have a couple of pages to try on the client account, but I judged it by clicking the built in license and privacy notice pages, and then returning to the home page, and it seemed to work ok except for sometimes when returning to the home page, it took a very long time.

It is very hard to actually configure websites in this manner. I am almost ready to go back to my old asp sites and forget this upgrading until I can find a product that really works. But then I noticed that the DNN site itself moves very quickly. What I would like to know is, what settings do I need to change or configure to make this program move fast enough to actually configure some sites with? Here is what I have ried so far:
  • I have tried to unload some modules, as I saw suggested in another post, but besides most of them being dependent on each other, I only see how to uninstall them, and I don't know if that is what I need to do, since I don't know how to re-install them if I need them.
  • I have changed, tested, and then reset the performance settings to no avail.
  • I have tried logging in as site admin instead of host admin, but it does not appear to be much faster.
  • I have tried doing most operations with the control panel minimized and set to view instead of edit. Still no speed.

Please, if there is something I am missing, I am a newbie, so please point out event the most obvious thing and I well check it. If there is any knowledgeable user who can help, I would be glad to supply you with an admin account to the site so you can review it yourself.

Please help, as I would like to adopt this program as my main portal manager, but it is currently too frustrating to use.

Hello,

I have the same problem, anonymous and non admin do not have any performance problem loading pages, however admin and host users takes many time to load full page.

I solved this problem changing the toolbar at host > host settings > advanced settigns > other settings > control panel; I changed the Ribbon Bar to ICONBAR

¿ May be, Ribbon Bar has performance problems ?

Thank you very much for this post.  Changing the Ribbon Bar to ICONBAR
speeded things up for me too.

you may want to checkout free Advanced Control Panel from www.oliverhine.com, which has been optimized for speed and provides extra features (read here: http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Community/Blogs/tabid/825/EntryId/2770/Great-free-Enhancements-for-your-DotNetNuke-5-Part-I.aspx)
