If your site is only slow when not visited for some time, then it comes from the fact that the asp.net worker process stops after some time of inactivity, so the application must reload itself and the first visit to any page is kind of slow.
If that is the case, then it get's solved by having continuous traffic or using a keepalive service or application to keep your site alive during the time it receives not visits. I use DNN Keep Alive 2008 http://www.snowcovered.com/Snowcovered2/Default.aspx?tabid=242&PackageID=9749 and I am very pleased with it.

If your site in continuouly slow even when not visiting it for the first time after an application restart, then it could be two things.

1) The hosting account does not have the the necessary performance or has too many user accounts on the same server like many cheap hosting. Try to install the same site locally and test to see if it is the case.

2) If the site is having continuous traffic already, then you can try some performance tweaks at http://www.mitchelsellers.com/blogs/articletype/articleview/articleid/198/dotnetnuke-performance-settings-explained.aspx and some database housekeeping at http://www.mitchelsellers.com/blogs/articletype/articleview/articleid/69/simple-dotnetnuke-performance-improvements.aspx

3) Something went wrong during the installation or upgrade of dotnetnuke. Since you only have a few pages, you can export them, make a new clean install and reimport them.

Daniel have right.
After some time of inactivity (~15min.) your page is removed from fast server cache.
Use some keep alive service, for example free nitroconnection.net
Size of main image is 1.2MB try reduce this.
