Hello all,

I have this site using the Blog Module 4.0.1 and DNN 5.06.03.  The site mysteriously started crashing constantly.  In troubleshooting various things, I found that my only workaround is to recycle the application pool every few minutes.  Even this doesn't work because the page exceptions seem to occur completely randomly.  The recycle process is the only way to quickly fix the site.
I have noticed that the first page exception is always a page access to the public blog.
In searching the net, I came across references to purging the SiteLog table.  I ran a SQL truncate to erase over 490,000 records from that table, but I still have the problem.  The blog does have a "purge" function, but what else could it be?  Any help is appreciated!!!

Here is the error that first appears (same page every time it seems) and is followed by just about every page erroring:

based on the error it appears a value in a blog table is null when it should not be -without looking into the code i can't say what, but i would recommend you check the table and see if there are blank values for the fields which hold the blog title, description, text and published date (sorry dont know the fields off the top of my head)

As an interim you might consider going into the blogs settings and going to the Syndication Options and unchecking both checkboxes to see if that resolves it.

Cathal,

I think you were spot on!  Thanks!

I found a perma link from a blog entry on 9/16 that had null instead of a url.  I copied a url from the previous blog post and pasted it into the field.  It has been an hour and no crash!!!

Thanks for the help!  I will keep watching it, but I feel optimistic!

Regards,

Steve

Glad to hea, thanks for the update - you might want to log an issue at http://dnnblog.codeplex.com/workitem/list/basic (though i havent heard of other people with the same problem) so they can investigate and fix

I am having the same problem except that the only null entries are for the Copyright fields which I would not think would matter.

I believe that the problem seems to stem from the Categories module.
When I try to access the Blog page the site crashes and I need to recycle the app pool to bring the site up again.
When I remove the Blog Categories module from the Blog page (using the Admin Pages tool) the page displays but I cannot edit any of the entries. I receive this error:

Error: Edit blog entry is currently unavailable. DotNetNuke.Services.Exceptions.ModuleLoadException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. ---> System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. at DotNetNuke.Modules.Blog.EditEntry.Page_Load(Object sender, EventArgs e) --- End of inner exception stack trace

If I try to add another Blog Categories module the page produces an error and cannot be viewed.

I had established five categories. When I look into the Blog_Categories table I noticed that all of the categories except the "All" category have a ParentId of "6" whereas the "All" category has a ParentId of "0". Is this correct?

Does anyone know what the problem may be? Any ideas to fix this problem would be most appreciated.

This site is on 6.00.02 using the 4.1.1 Blog Module.
