Hi eveyrone,

Has anyone else experienced AVG hanging the login process for their site?  I have reports from customers complaining about this (I don't use AVG as it is too bloated).  I have put AVG on a virtual machine and have verified the problem.

Specs:
AVG : 2012.0.1834
DNN: 5.6.3

Problem encountered:
IE result :"Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage"
FF result: "The connection was reset"

Some test cases:
When AVG "Surf Shield" is enabled login fails as mentioned above.
When AVG "Surf Shield" is disabled the login works
With "Surf Shield" enabled, if I clear the client cache just before trying to log in it will work, but only once.  Log out and then try logging in again will hang.

Any ideas?  I'm stumped.

Thankd for your help everyone.

Gord

I just wanted to follow up with something else I noticed.  As mentioned before, when trying to log in with Secure Shield enabled the page hangs until it times out.  If you then try to access the site again it shows you as logged in.  Following the packet capture I see that my DNN site does in fact set a login cookie, but the client browser never sends back a request to go to the page being logged into.  It just sites there with the new cookie and nothing happens

Hopefully some DNN IP guru will make sense out of this.

Thanks again.

I'm afraid I have no answer for you, but can confirm that occasionally in the past tools such as this (and norton internet security) have suddenly and for no apparent reason decided to block cookies. As these tools typically use heuristics and make best guesses it can be hard to determine why they do this, and I know of no other resolution except to remove them (one user indicated that when he moved an intranet site into the trusted sites group in IE it resolved it for him but it was only valid as he was on an intranet and could push the change via Active directory)

Thanks for your help.  I've spent more than a day looking into this and still don't have a solution.  If it were up to me I would tell the customer to remove AVG.
