Hi,

We've been running Dotnetnuke on our portal for over 3 years now, but since a month we keep getting random errors.
I can't find anything in the log-files, so in my desperation, I come to all of you :)

We have to restart the w3wp process, do a iisreset and sometimes we have to manually restart the application pool.
And then the site is up and running again.

We are using DNN 5.2.1 (we're developing our new portal on the current release)

Below is our error-message.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

[NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.]
   DotNetNuke.Entities.Portals.PortalInfo.Fill(IDataReader dr) +1349
   DotNetNuke.Common.Utilities.CBO.FillObjectFromReader(Object objObject, IDataReader dr) +82
   DotNetNuke.Common.Utilities.CBO.CreateObjectFromReader(Type objType, IDataReader dr, Boolean closeReader) +121
   DotNetNuke.Common.Utilities.CBO.FillListFromReader(Type objType, IDataReader dr, IList objList, Boolean closeReader) +67
   DotNetNuke.Common.Utilities.CBO.FillCollection(IDataReader dr, Type objType) +41
   DotNetNuke.Entities.Portals.PortalController.GetPortals() +66
   DotNetNuke.Common.Initialize.CacheMappedDirectory() +38
   DotNetNuke.Common.Initialize.InitializeApp(HttpApplication app) +643
   DotNetNuke.Common.Initialize.Init(HttpApplication app) +152
   DotNetNuke.Common.Global.Global_BeginRequest(Object sender, EventArgs e) +560
   System.Web.SyncEventExecutionStep.System.Web.HttpApplication.IExecutionStep.Execute() +68
   System.Web.HttpApplication.ExecuteStep(IExecutionStep step, Boolean& completedSynchronously) +75

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As I saw something about the cachemappeddirectory, I started looking around in the performance settings, but everything seems ok.
Below our settings:

Cache Provider: Memory
Cache Setting: Heavy
Authenticated Cacheability: Public
Compression: Deflate compression
Use whitespace filter: yes

Any of you that have had the same issues, or any of you who could help me out?
It would be very appreciated!

With kind regards, Gunther

there seem to be an issue in your portal record (either in portals or portalsettings table)

 Hey Sebastian,

I looked at the two tables, but the content is the same for this 1 portal as for all the others that aren't generating errors.

To specify, we have about 8 portals running on our server.
All of them use a different database. Only this one portal gives errors, and the others keep working just fine.
And until about a month ago, this one particular portal wasn't giving any errors too. And in the meanwhile we haven't changed anything, except stopping the schedular.

Any other ideas?
Thanks in advance

With kind regards,
Gunther

Hi Gunther, do all sites use same settings for IIS website, app pool and same .Net framework version?

Hi Sebastian,

First of all, thanks for trying to help me out.

They all use the same settings in IIS, they use different app pools but with the same settings. I have an app pool per site. They all use .Net 2.0 framework.
