SEO your Login Link

Giving back to the community :-)

There is no need to allow bots (that behave) to follow or index your login pages or links.  Searching for hours on end to find a way to override the link structure of dnnLogin control, I gave up.  Found a single support issue dating back to 2009 that offered little help but confirmed... someone else has also thought about this!

RESTRICT BOT ACCESS (how to)

Edit the login.ascx file located in /admin/skins and add a  rel="NOFOLLOW,NOINDEX"  to the asp control

<asp:HyperLink ID="enhancedLoginLink" runat="server" CssClass="secondaryActionsList" rel="NOFOLLOW"/>

Hope this saves others some time trying to find a way inside of DNN to accomplish this !

Cheers,

Bill

another idea would be excluding /login.aspx in robots text.

PS: be aware that core code changes need to be redone after every upgrade.

Very true, however bots/spiders enter from various directions and if its not a normal bot crawl the robots.txt isnt read.. therefore to ensure total bot coverage... this would be a more complete step!

Cheers,  Bill

P.S.  Thanks for the reminder about future updates washing the adjustment... its in my notes for modz to be implemented with new updates :-)
