We are still debating whether to move our local government website from a commercial CMS to DNN, there are a number of questions we have still not answered and I was hoping some of you guys might help.
We have been evaluating DNN by using the community edition for some of our third party sector sites and one issue is load speed, although we have tried to implement some of the solutions listed online (the only other suggestion we have not yet tried is Snapsis PageBlaster) the load still seems to be slow and the sites are very small.

Due to budget cuts forcing an ever pressing need to reduce costs, we are also evaluating whether we can reduce the number of costly SQL licences by moving to mySQL.
Do the the latest versions of DNN now have providers for mySQL and how well will it run with DNN.

 I would appreciate any advice, in fact If anyone has any experience of running DNN for local government or similar sites any comments / pitfalls that will help would be well recieved.

 

I'd say that it's completly impractical to think of running DNN on anything other than SQL server.

Use SQL Server Express. It's the exact same core engine and it's free.

Hi,

With R2 Express you get 10 GB of storage per database (which is plenty for most DNN Installations) and a few limited reporting service features. So, you can easily go with it.
