Anyone reading my issue with composite files with DNN8 knows this issue has been going on for a long time on my production site and getting worse. To get around it, I have upgraded to DNN9 and TURNED OFF composite files at HOST and PORTAL levels.  SERIOUSLY<,THEY ARE OFF. This was supposed to get rid of the error message in the logs where the composite files are not found. Now, I am totally confused as to why I still have errors in the logs as DNN tries to serve composite files to my users. If it is off, it should not be doing this?

  • DNN 9.0.2 Platform
  • SQL Server 2016
  • IIS 10.0
  • HTTPS
  • SQL Server 2014
  • App Pool is 4.0
  • PORTAL LEVEL: Enable Composite Files (OFF), Minify CSS (OFF), Minifiy JS (OFF)
  • HOST LEVEL: Enable Composite Files (OFF), Minify CSS (OFF), Minifiy JS (OFF)

I really need an answer to this, so all ideas are appreciated.

So they really are still on, even though I have it turned off on the site and global levels.

I have downloaded DNN 9.0.2 source and began walking through the source. I found the line it is dying on.

I have turned off composite the website, in web.config, turn off persist at web.config, and turned on debug which shuts off even more. It still is doing composite files. It is still looking for composite files that do not exist.

I am looking for someone who can tell me how to shut this off entirely. I am running HTTP2, so I really need this off for two reasons:

  • Combining files on http/2 slows you down
  • The combined files are not working, and it is not delivering content.

HELP!!!

What you see is probably cached, I have seen this also. Even if they are gone from the source of your page you will see from to time errors in the Event log on your server or in the logs directory in DNN _Default because search engines have copies of those old pages with references in them to combined files. There is not much you can do about this apart from keeping your settings stable for a longer period of time.

I looked into that, and I think that is not what is true. It appears DNN ignores the settings and continues to created cached items in the ..\App_Data\ClientDependency\ directory.


From what I see, DNN is only checking to see if it should be doing composite files AFTER it has created them on the delivery side.

This would, of course, act the exact same way if what you said were true.





The thing is, when I bring up the page myself on a cleared browser, it still tries to deliver the two axd files I talked about. I just can not turn this off.
