Just an informative post for all the users out there. I was having trouble with my users after rolling out ActiveForums (enterprise license). I couldn't figure out many could not see some of my forums or post in the ones they could see. I traced the issue, and discovered that ActiveForums bypasses the DNN and .NET Membership provider models to access the DNN users and role membership tables directly.

What this means: If you have written, or are planning to write your own Membership, User, or Role providers (either .NET or DNN), be sure to sync user membership into the standard tables. Even if you havn't written your own providers, be sure to keep ActiveForums in sync with the supported DNN release version. If DNN changes the design or implementation of the Users or UsersInRoles tables, then ActiveForums will no longer work. (be warned)

(current version of ActiveForums is 4.1.19.0)

as an aside: Since I have a current support subscription, I've spoken to the ActiveModules support team about this, and they insist it is for performance reasons and have no plans to fix it. My only current recourse is to attempt to override their DataProvider and to stop applying updates to our deployed version of ActiveForum.
