 Hi,

I'm currently teaching myself how to build modules in C# using Mitchel Sellers brilliant book, DotNetNuke module programming. Being a bit cocky ive developed my own instant messaging module.

the only problem is when a user is reading a message the following url is displayed in the address bar

http://ssmdotnetnuke/Home/tabid/40/ctl/vsr/mid/423/msgid/3/Default.aspx.

the msg id querystring obviously has a Message Id of 3. This brings all the information needed to display the message to the user who it was intended for. However if you were to change the 3 to (let's say) a 4 and then load the page. The module will display a message not intended for that user.

A security nightmare. How do i stop this from happening? Do i need to encrypt the url or do i need to alter the friendly URLs settings?

thanx

The proper way to implement that would be to check permissions.  So, really, only your receiving user should be able to view the new message.  In DNN, that permission check should be relatively easy to do - just check recipient UserID and current UserID and only display the message if they match.
