We have a module that renders content for articles, similar to a blog post where we would like to have the URL specific to this items title.
Is there any inbuilt means or thirdy part way to handle this so theu RL is mennighful and jsut not the actual internal item ID number or similar as a param on the current page URL?

There are various ways that you can handle this on your own.  Using the NavigateURL methods you can write your own parameters that are meaningful, OR you could look at how some of the other modules do it.

For example I like the way that Ventrian News Articles does it, so I bought the module to have a look at the way they do it.
