I'm currently rebuild our sports association website using dnn v5.6.1

What I would like to do this time is utilise more xml based content, so that I can update the data on the site simply by changing the xml content and ftp'ing it to the website. By having pre-built xsl style sheets in place I won't have to worry about the layout, thus saving me lots of time managing the site.

That's the plan, but I've hit a couple of issues, I've not been able to resolve.

Firstly, I would like to use html modules to hold the xsl/html elements (which are fixed, page-by-page), and have *them* load data from the core xml data file held in a ftp folder.

However, in all the examples I have seen, it's the XML file itself that's linked to the XSL file, and not the other way round. This would mean loading the xml data in the html module! And keeping the style sheet in the ftp folder. Which defeats the object of being able to load xml files to the site and have the various pages load from it.

The second issue I have is how to you use a html module to load data and styling information from a central xml file. I know I could use the xml module (as I've experimented with it), however I would like to use snippets of xml data in and around other html content that’s changing frequently, and being able to add basic html elements within the same module as the xml elements is an advantage. By using the inbuilt xml module it's all or nothing. I need the flexibility of html module with the xml loading capabilities of the xml module. I don't want to have to keep this within two separate modules due to layout issues on my page.

Is this making sense or am I barking up the wrong tree?
Many thanks

Steve
