Hi,
Got a question which I'm sure someone must have a workaround for, I just probably haven't thought of it yet. I have several hundred html files (help files for an app we sell), which I've uploaded to a su bfolder in my portal. I want to link to the main index.html file but I'm trying to avoid using the IFrame module, or the full url.

The reason I don't want to use the IFrame module is obvious, because sharing a link to a certain article (by copy pasting from the address bar) would be impossible. Now, I could use the full url, in the form of

www.mydomain.com/portals/myiportal/mysubfolder/index.html

but that's a bit too long, and I'm trying to avoid showing the full path (i.e. including the /Portals etc).
Is there a work-around to linking files in a portal sub folder so that the url could end up as:

www.mydomain.com/mysubfolder/index.html

without all the /Portals/ stuff?

This would be awesome if it were possible!

Thanks
John

The simplest way you can do this is to use Links Core module. It does not show full URL and also makes security verification. So you can allow for example only users within Security role to see it. And ever more URL will be like

http://site.com/LinkClick.aspx?fileticket=ZqX2RomjPjc%3d&tabid=1118&mid=2729

So your original location of the file will be hidden.

It doesn't work as expected. The page (index.html) loads, but the pages in it (it's an iframe page), don't. I suspect the IFrames can't locate each page when loaded via that module.

Or am I missing something?

We have made custom module for one of our customers 2 months ago. This module used preauthentication and httpHandler to prevent direct documents downloading from the portals folder. It was big project. But it works only for IIS 7 or higher. IIS 5/6 does not allow to do this. If you like, please contact us and we will describe more.

It's ok, thanks for the help though. I'll just use the full url, it'll be annoying but most people won't mind, as long as it works.

Thanks
