Having migrated a long-standing web site to DNN over the last few months, I am now looking to take more advantage of the controls market. I expect to beef up our site in the next few months with more functionality and an improved look.

By way of example, I am looking at UltraSlide (http://www.snowcovered.com/Snowcovere...) which seems neat, although I have experienced one or two reliability issues that I am investigating. However, I am not sure if a control-by-control approach is best. I note that there a good number of control libraries out there - groups of controls that are bundled together to (hopefully) offer a better value.

I am interested to know what third party libraries folks use extensively - is there a specific collection of controls you have regularly used (anything from "utility"-type controls to full-fledged "subsystems" like eCommerce functionality).

I am thinking of offerings like the Data Springs Collection: http://www.snowcovered.com/Snowcovere...

Anything in your arsenal that you find you use over and over?

I've used Markit's modules for years with very few issues. I've also used some (not all) of DataSprings, OnyakTech's bundles etc. I'm a heavy user of Ventrian's modules (Property Agent, News Articles, Feedback Center) and finally Active Forums and Active Social.

Generally speaking you can mix and match modules to "assemble" the site functionality you seek. That said, not all modules (or module vendors) are created equally. I tend to focus on a few core module vendors that have:

1. Been around for a while
2. Have a good reputation within the DNN community
3. Actually make a living coding modules (no garage modules for me)
4. Have active and vibrant communities (forums)
5. Offer source
6. Constantly release bug fixes, new features, publish a roadmap etc.
7. Offer trials

It's easy to end up with too many modules that overlap functionality (sliders and galleries for example). In the end you will find a few that work for you.
