Has anyone used PageBalster from Snapsis.com?

It looks like a good way to speed up DNN rendering pages.

I would appreciate any comments.

I've used it for over 3 years now and swear by it. Do be aware that it is one of those modules that has a learning curve due to it's unique abilities.

- Compression
- URL redirect/rewrite
- Regex replacements
- Token Usage

This is just to name a few things it's useful for. I've also used it to rewrite urls for hosting all my static files on s3/cloudfront. Remove unwanted js/css from 3rd party modules, etc.

If you only need PageBlaster for it's merge and compression capabilities, you may want to wait and test out the next DNN release 6.1.0 to make a determination if you need it. The next DNN release is said to have those capabilities.

If you want to use PB for other things like I've mentioned, then you can't go wrong.

Depending on the nature of your site PageBlaster like products can improve site performance . . . this is specially the case if your site it relatively static.

BUT the first thing to understand is that PageBlaster is technically not supported  with dnn 6.x - it works for some while others report lots of issue with it - and at a guess its likely that this may always be the case.

DNN610 when it is released will have a lot of PageBlaster type functionality built directly into the core - things like css and js merging for example.  When these sort of things happen - the need or relevance of 3rd party products tends to diminish to a point where the developers drop their products.

I guess time will only tell for PB.

Also note. Not many reports about it on a DNN 6 install yet. I haven't had the chance to use it myself on DNN 6, but I'm getting closer to that stage.

Edit: Westa had mentioned the same re:DNN 6 compatability. Thanks for chiming in. I've been watching the Snapsis forums for this but haven't in a cpl weeks now.

This is for a DNN 5 insdtalation that on a hosting site that is not familar with DNN

Can PageBlaster just be used with "default" setting easily to just cache the pages as HTM?

Or does it require lots of custom settings to use PB?
.

As you mention, I do plan to go to DNN 6 soon.  I installed it on my test server and DNN 6 is VERY NICE looking and a big change.  It makes my DNN 5 site look OLD.
