Having major issues understanding a open search issue with what used to be XepientSolutions.XSSearchSpider in DNN 4.9.3. It went from working flawlessly for over a year to almost an unusable module because of the errors it is throwing during its indexing. I'm on a steep learning curve to understand this and our site is hosted on a shared server so I lack some ability to look at the back end to resolve. Essentially the problem is Open-Search indexes some pages and pdfs, but not all. Our structure for our pdfs and pages are the same but the search log reads like this:

Home & Garden Flyer(July_10_2010).pdf XSSearchEngine - XSSearchSpider Invalid URI: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. XSSearchEngine - XSSearchSpider Invalid URI: You do not have permission to extract text XSSearchEngine - XSSearchSpider Invalid URI: You do not have permission to extract text XSSearchEngine - XSSearchSpider Invalid URI: You do not have permission to extract text XSSearchEngine - XSSearchSpider Invalid URI: You do not have permission to extract text application_for_appointment_board_of_fire_commissioners_2010.pdf XSSearchEngine - XSSearchSpider Invalid URI: You do not have permission to extract text 2011 Vendor Application.pdf XSSearchEngine - XSSearchSpider Invalid URI: You do not have permission to extract text XSSearchEngine - XSSearchSpider Invalid URI: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. XSSearchEngine - XSSearchSpider Invalid URI: You do not have permission to extract text XSSearchEngine - XSSearchSpider Invalid URI: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. XSSearchEngine - XSSearchSpider Invalid URI: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. XSSearchEngine - XSSearchSpider Invalid URI: Header checksum illegal XSSearchEngine -

What is all this invalid URI stuff? I've done massive searching, with little results. The only info I've found seems to point to a .net installation issue on the server (which I have little control of, and don't know how to explain to my host.) Can I just uninstall and reinstall this custom integration of this search engine? How do I get an installation now that DNN has bought/integrated this as their core search engine? Really at a loss here. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

-Dave

Well, I think I've found it. It looks like the error - XSSearchSpider Invalid URI: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. - is only happening for Adobe PDF's saved as PDF version: 1.5 (Acrobat 6.x) files. I still have some testing to do. If anyone has any comments on this or insight as to if this is a known issue with certain versions of PDF's I'd really like to know.

Thanks-
Dave
