I've built up a test module (Guestbook) from the wrox book and have it installed and working on my site running on local IIS. It works fine but I'm unable to get the debugging to work.

In VS 2008 (Administrator) with my project loaded I attach to the w3wp.exe (IIS APPPOOL\DefaultAppPool[Administrator]). And with breakpoints set on the page_load I navigate to the test page with modules installed on it.

The breakpoints simply don't hit. I've checked the website root /bin directory for the same date and name for the dll and pdb files which is indicating, I guess, with the red dot that there is a breakpoint associated.

The web config shows <compilation debug="true" strict="false">

The IIS shows that the Default App Pool is associated with V2.0 of .NET Framework.

Whenever I load up my page I see absolutely no activity from my VS2008. I've tried deleting 'Temporary ASP.NET Files' after stopping and re-starting the IIS.

There must be seomething obvious that I'm missing - any ideas?

Thanks in advance,

You need to make sure that you modules compiled dll file that you are installing with the module is a debug version - it will be in the debug path not the release path - at a guess if you are not seeing any debug activity then most likely you are installing the release version.

Thankyou for your quick replies. It's still not working - it is a debug dll with the pdb file as well and they reside in the Website bin folder along with all the other dlls (no special debug folder). I deleted them and made sure that they built again. I went through the properties on the project and made sure debug, output directory correct and pdb file selected.

When I connect to the process I see all my breakpoints showing however code does not run. Previous threads on this forum suggest that irrespective of the breakpoints I should see some activity on VS2008. Is this correct?

I shall try a simpler Hello World control and see if I get any success with that..

In the meantime if you have any other ideas please let me know.

Thanks again,

is your web site running in IIS - if it is running in IIS Express or Cassini, you will need to attach to the appropriate process.
