i'm having the same problem in DNN 7.0.3. All profile fields are visible to AdminOnly but when a user with only registered users role tries to send a message the autocomplete shows all users that correspond with the entered characters.

 I don't have any social group roles and don't want users to see the names of other users in my DNN site.

Any chance on a solution?

Just want to point out that the way the Message Center works today is not "wrong" for everyone. Personally, I prefer it to work exactly like it works today (where any user can PM any other user). This is how the PM system works on many sites out there and it's what many users are used to using.

I'm not saying that the desire to have the ability to lock things down is wrong. It just needs to be configurable so that the site admin can choose how it should work.

I know it is not wrong for everyone. But as stated before by cathal 'the autocomplete is only populated with users that are friends and followers' the message center does work incorrectly because all users don't have friends and/or followers and there is no social group created.

So if the Message Center should only shows users that are friends, followers or in a social group and  it shows all users it is not working correctly.

You are right to say it should be configurable but according to cathal it should be by only showing friends, followers and social group members.
