I have a "News" section on my website.  I'm adding stories and it's getting long.  What I am trying to accomplish is typical and something I would think is built in.  However, if someone can guide me in the right direction, that would be great.

When I click on the "News" page, I would like to get a list of all my news content that are children of "news", but just the title, date posted, and a teaser, not the full article.  But it would have a link to the full article.  It would also have the ability to automatically paginate my content.  So, I would be able to specify that the page displays 10 pieces of content and page through the rest.

My desired option would be to use a core function.  If not, any 3rd party suggestions would be great.  Suggestions?.

Ventrian News Articles. You need to buy a subscription to use it and there isn't a trial version, but trust me, it's the correct thing to use*. Don't even think about trying to use core modules - the Ventrian one is worth 10x what it costs and you'll love it.

*disclaimer: I'm not affiliated with Ventrian, just a happy customer for the past 4 years

You said you would prefer a core function so just to throw this in to the mix, I use the core Blog module for this all the time. You can display however many summaries or 'teasers' as you like with a read more link to the full article.

However, the older articles are accessed via the archive rather than being paginated.

There are some issues with the current Blog 4.1.1 (http://dnnblog.codeplex.com/releases/view/69392) but these seem to have been resolved with the new Blog 5.0.0 (http://dnnblog.codeplex.com/releases/view/89128), not currently for use on production sites.

You can see the new blog in action on this site's Blog http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Resources/Blogs.aspx (I'm assuming there will be an option to display a read more button like on the current module instead of having to click the blog title).

Also check out these blog posts on the new features in Blog 5.0.0:

That said, we have been waiting a long time for the new module to come out of RC stage with no idea of when it actually will.

Hope that helps!

I'll second the Ventrian news articles recommendation. The core blog module isn't as flexible for news type content. Ventrian supports some great templating, I'm using it primarily on my site at santry.com, I use it for navigation, article content, displays on the home page, pretty much the entire site is using the module for content management.

Check out ventrian.com for the module.
