I'm running a multi portal installation of DNN that I recently upgraded from 5.1 to 6.2. I never notice before that the Console Module was not listed in my Host:Extensions listing. I can locate all the correct files if I browse to the DesktopModules/Admin/Console path on my server (console.gif, consolemodule.ascx, jquery.console.js, module.css, settings.ascx, settings.ascx.cs, viewconsole.ascx, viewconsole.ascx.cs and an app_localresources folder with settings.ascx.resx and viewconsole.ascx.resx in it). But when I go to Host -> Extensions, it's not on that list anywhere nor is is available if I just try to add a module to an existing page.

I examined the sqlserver backend for records in the various module  tables, and couldn't locate anything there.

I'm guessing that during an upgrade from 4.x to 5.x, the console module never installed properly.

Can anyone help me to somehow get the module added to the host->extensions listing so that I can add it to a page?

Thanks much,

Glen Mitchell

You might try taking the install package for the console module (from the download you used to ugprade DNN, look in the install/module folder of the package) and upload it through the host/extensions page. See if that creates the proper reference.

Thanks Chris for your response. I looked in the zip file as you directed and did not find anything related to the Console Module.

There are zips in that folder for menu, core messaging, html, journal, member directory, mobile management, preview profile management, razor host, social groups, taxonomy and telerik.

There is a DesktopModules/Admin folder in the zip with a subfolder of Console, but it appears to be just the supporting files (resx, ascx, js ...).

Any other thoughts?

Glen

Glen, AFAIR Console module is part of DNN core and there is no separate install package. However, if you have running a local site of the same DNN version, you may create one in Host > Extensions and install it on the target site or just create the module definition and controls manually using the same settings.

Thank you Sebastian for the advice. I set up a definition manually as such:

Select Definition: Console Module
Friendly Name: Console Module

I added 2 module controls:

1) Control=blank, Title=blank, Source=DesktopModules/Admin/Console/ViewConsole.ascx
2) Control=Settings, Title=Console Settings, Source=DesktopModules/Admin/Console/Settings.ascx

When I insert the module in a page, it appears to work ok. I am presented with settings/options for menu and parent visibility and such. After applying my responses, it shows a menu as I'd expect. Not bad.

My 2 follow-up questions then to you, or another expert that would care to weigh-in, are:

1) are those the only 2 module controls that I need for this module and are the names set up as per a normal installation?
2) when I view my extensions, will this manually setup one be included in the automatic version checking that takes place to alert me that a newer version is available?

Thank you again,
Glen
