I'm looking for a cross-platform supported file management module that simply allows users to upload/download files. I have the following needs:

  1. Allow folder hierarchy
  2. Allows securing folders via DNN user permissions/roles
  3. Has an "Upload" link in the module (I,e, does not require a user to have 'edit' permissions on the module itself)
  4. Defaults to "save" a file, not open in-place (or provides a separate download link)
  5. Works cross platform (Win/Mac/iOS/Android)

The built in DNN file manager isn't really suited for this.

The Ventrian "FileLinks" module is close, but it defaults to opening files in place. You can right-click to download, but not for files in secure DNN folders. Also in Chrome-on-Android, the LinkClick.aspx file handler file is downloaded, rather than the file itself.

The "Documents" module doesn't allow for uploads as per #3 above

The "Links" module also doesn't upload as per #3 above

DMX lite feels like overkill...

Any thoughts/suggestions? Thanks.

you may consider using DNN Repository module or, more sophisticated, Bring2Mind Document Exchange. Besides, there is a simple upload module on www.oliverhine.com, which you may combine with a module displaying all files inside a specific folder.
