Hello,

We have a strange problem with our DotNetNuke portal. We are using Feedback extension as a contact form so that our customers can contact us over our web site. This extension should mail user’s message to the email address we have added in extension’s administration but the email is send only if the user is logged in into DotNetNuke. Users that are not authenticated can’t send the feedback.

Any idea why this happens and how to solve our problem?

We are using DotNetNuke 5.1.2. and Feedback 4.4.1. Update is not an option.

Thank you!

Best wishes,
Marko

Although Feedback 4.4.1 was the last version prior to my further development of the module, I don't recall any issue with unauthenticated users submitting feedback.

What happens when an unauthenticated user clicks the Send button:

Error is displayed? (also check Event Viewer for any logged errors)
Feedback is stored in database but no email sent to specified Send To address?
Postback only without any error display and no Feedback stored to database?

Feedback 4.4.1 (and 4.4.3, the latest version compatible with your DNN install) always sent the email using the email email entered into the Feedback form as the Send From address. I suspect that the issue may be that your hosting provider's email server may block the sending of email when the Send From domain is not the same as the site's domain. Do the registered users that are able to send feedback have email addresses in the same domain as the site but the unregistered users you tested do not?

Feedback 5.00.02 was the first of the "newer" versions that included a Send From field in the module's settings to over come this issue. Feedback 5.00.02 requires a DNN installation of of 5.2.3 or later.

In addition to considering upgrading both your DNN installation and Feedback module, please check that the Host Settings -> SMTP Server settings are properly configured. If they are not configured to require at least Basic Authentication with the proper username and password then this is even more likely the cause of the problem.

Hello,

Thank you for your answer. I'm new to DotNetNuke so I have some problems finding things. If I understand you correctly DotNetNuke errors are stored in Windows Event Viewer?

Can you please give mi more information where can I find Host Settings -> SMTP Server settings. I don’t see this option under DotNetNuke site administration (/Admin URL).

When anonymous user tries to send feedback, feedback is even not stored in the database (it is not displayed under feedback form when I’m signed in as administrator, but I can see other feedbacks that were send using authenticated users).

To which version could I update Feedback module without having to update DotNetNuke?

Thank you!

Best wishes,
Marko

When logged in as admin or host user navigate to Admin --> Event Viewer to view more details of errors that have been logged. In many cases it is better to login as host user as you will often be able to see additional error details and some errors that are not visible to the admin user.

You must login as host user to see and change SMTP Server settings. They are found under Host --> Host Settings.

In the Feedback module settings is Moderation enabled? If so, the missing feedback from anonymous users may be getting added to the database but will not be visible in the Feedback Comments module until it has been approved. Please use the Moderate Posts command in the Feedback module's action menu to view posts not yet approved.

Feedback version 4.4.3 is the latest version that could be installed in your current DotNetNuke version.
