I have 2 requirements I am trying to determine how best to implement using standard modules in DNN 6.  Both require users the ability to upload documents.

1) I need a place to store meeting minutes so that anyone visiting the site wil be able to view or download them.  I would like our organization's recording secretary to be able to log in and upload files for others to view online.  My thought was to use the Announcements module as a way to upload a file, control when they're available to be seen, and list them nicely.  But, I suspect there's a better way.  Files are PDFs.

2) Often times users send me flyers, also in the form of a PDF, to post to the site as a link in an HTML module.  This works just fine, but then they constantly send me updated files that I simply FTP over the top of the existing PDF.  I would like a way for them to be able to upload the files through the website UI and effectively achieve the same overwriting result.

Thoughts?

1) You can do that or simply allow the secretary to edit the page and upload it like a content editor. Just give him/her access to that page.

2) Caching could be an issue with using the same file name over and over. That happens to me on my intranet and I try to avoid it. With this said, I would create a page with a custom built upload module and give that URL to the originators of the PDF so they can upload them. They wouldn't require an DNN login account to do this.

Thanks for the ideas Mark.
1) I'm not sure what you mean. She will have the ability to manage the page but I need a control that is capable of displaying a list of documents as well as allow some users to update the list. Hence the announcements module. Do you know of another module that would be better? The result should be for a user to click on a "Meeting Minutes" menu option and go to a page that lists PDF documents by date. Maybe the Resository module? I used it in the past but it takes a a ton of space. Or maybe Forms and Lists - if tht's even still around.
2) Yeah, I figured caching could be a problem, but eventually it would be made available, right? Custom made modules....the Pro and the Con of DNN, IMO. They're ideal for when you need what the name implies - "modularity" - but a PITA when you only need functionality in one place. It's take me too long to learn to build a module. Perhaps I can find one for purchase.

1) Sorry, I can't help much with those modules since I don't use them often.

2) Building modules is a little difficult at first but like everything else becomes a breeze once you do it enough. You never know where you will re-use something. If it fits your needs, build it. Don't worry about re-using it at this time.
