Hello,

I'd really like to be able to use the Journal and Member directory modules exactly like they're supposed to be used, but to do it for a specific group without the URL parameter. Is that possible? I see I can set a filter for the member directory... but what about the journal? Also, the member directory still seems to respond to a query parameter regardless of it's filter setting.

This would be really awesome for formal groups - not ones that are user created but rather ones I've built centrally.

Thanks,

Mike

So does anybody know a way to do this? I feel like this must be a common issue - don't many sites have existing groups or defined groups that they want to give functionality to? What about church members, members of an organization, subscribers who purchased some service, etc. There must be some others who want to use the journal for a group that already exists, right?

Good question. AFAIK you can't filter the journal to a specific groupid (yet). I'd like to see DNN develop the open source social module a little more....seems like there are many many use cases where the modules fall just a bit short. This one is a good example.

Since DNN Social is build on these open source modules I'm hopeful we'll start to see some investment again (it's been almost a year) as their paying customers present use cases like these that require additional maturation of the core modules in order to support them.

This is badly needed to make it really useful. I know ActiveSocial had it on the roadmap for a long time but that was 2 years ago and the core solution is not as advanced as the ActiveSocial one was

The idea of setting up a group page without the GroupId parameter is quite interesting. It would be easy to modify the group modules so that they render a particular group id, but it dealing with integration of other modules would be a little more difficult. I can definitely see the benefit of the use case, but it something that will require a little more thought as to how it impacts the overall solution.
