Thanks Michael. I looked at my web.config and mine was missing the and tags, so I put them inside . Everything else was in there.
I retried the site and am still getting the same results. I suppose it's probably because I'm running DNN 9.
I'm going to keep trying and do another attempt on a different install and see if I have any luck there. And keep asking the question wherever I can.
I appreciate your help and if you thik of any other resources which might help please let me know.

Thanks
Tom

To clarify my last message. The only tags I was missing from your post were the httpModules tag and httpHandlers tag inside system.web. I added those but am still getting the same result - AD authentication It works, but I have to browse directly to the WindowsSignin.aspx page (as opposed to automatically redirecting to the windowssignin page) .

I tried a new installation on a different server using AD provider 5.0.6. On this one, I do get the auto redirect to the windows sign-in page, but when I get there, it doesn't log me in and I get the "You are not authorized to view this page due to invalid authentication headers." error.

I checked permissions and noticed my newer install didn't have the IIS_IUSR permissions set. So I added that, but still getting the same result. Still looking for clues...

Michael, are you running in Classisc or Integrated Pipeline mode?

Tom,

Integrated. I am not sure if Classic Pipeline mode is still supported in DNN...

Happy DNNing!
Michael
