Hi, dont know if correct place to post?, but has anyone any detailed examples or information on calling a rest API from a DNN Module. I keep hearing that there is a web services library in DNN but cannot find any info on implementing it.

In my case I need to connect to Salesforce and pull some information, format it and display to public but just need a heads up on where to start.

Stuart,

I don't know if this will 100% answer your question but hopefully these will help get you further along the way to finding a solution path.

A while back I wrote a blog series on module development using web services. Check out the entries on web services as they may help.

Also, DNN Sharp provides a module, DNN API Endpoint, that makes creating web services very easy as well. You could try the trial version out to see if it gets you what you need.

Hope this helps...

Clint's blog series is probably the best place to get started.  You'll also find some comprehensive examples of doing this in my Code Camp Events module.  Though, it's an Angular implementation.

Specifically, you'll want to look at the following folders of that module:

  • /Controllers/
  • /Scripts/ng/
  • /Services/

Stuart, this really depends on how you want to access the Salesforce API. I will assume you want to access it from client-side code. If that is the case, then how you do it will be dictated by the type of code you are writing (Angular, Vue, React, etc.). Really it will be no different in DNN than anywhere else you would do it. However, if you are interested in building your own API via DNN modules, that would be another conversation. :)

Cheers guys,  Clint's blog  is very useful and may well be a start point for this and other modules. I will also have a look at DNN Sharp as well.

Thanks Stuart
