Teambound:

I apologize but I don't have any suggestions about your specific error.  However, you mentioned that you need help quick because your site is down.  Hopefully, you backed up your site before installing the update.  If so, restore the original while waiting for help from others.  You did a backup, right?

I wanted to throw out some backup advice for others, too, because issue comes up regularly.  I host my own DNN sites, so I'll share what I do before I install any updates (especially betas).

  • First, I shut down the SQL Server and IIS services.
  • Then I backup the following trees to another location:
    • ..\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\*.* (including all subfolders)
    • ..\DNNSite\*.* (including all subfolders) (This would be the main folder of your DNN site)
  • Then I turn on the SQL Server and IIS Services again.

Yes, it's overkill, but I'm pretty anal-retentive, so it works for me.  When something strange happens during an installation (such as the problem you described above), I perform the reverse procedure to restore the original site.

Folks that are using an external host for their DNN Site, may not be able use the procedure above.  Someone else can probably share some insight about what to do that case.

Good Luck!
Van

OK...take a deep breath.  The upgrade DOES NOT DELETE DATA.   However, the instance of the Event Module may be causing problems on your page.  Either 1) you had an old version of the Events module that we did not test with that caused the SQL Upgrade errors or 2) a version of DNN running that we did not test with.  There are many versions of the module and dnn... so we need this to help...So,what versions of everything are/were you running:?

Like others have said...this is somewhat of a lesson everyone that runs DNN needs to be aware of....backup the site and the database whenever you upgrade anything.  If you have not done so, I would strongly recommend you do that now, as uninstalling and re-installing may cause more issues...I repeat, the upgrade to Events 3.3.7 did not delete data!

Thanks for the reply!!  and the advice on backups. Yes I do have a backup -- I was just panicing as the events modules is a core module on my site. the site supports my communities sports programs and I have about 20 event modules on the site where teams manage their schedules. It just about season time and the coaches are scrambling to get the schedules loaded.

In any event, I was running the very last beta  of events prior to this release. I did not uninstall the beta but just installed 337. After that, I can no longer view details, switch modes (list) etc. I can add, delete ok. I am also running dnn 441.

Unfortunately, I did uninstall and reinstall a couple of times. reloaded an older version  which did install and work ok.

What do you recommend  I do. Id hate to restore since there has been a lot of activity on the site.

thx

I'm not sure I have a good recommendation.  I too have been upgrading my site (www.avanced.net), with all the versions, including beta...  I have not tried to install the released version yet, as their may be issues with the release process...Did you use the Release version from the DNN site?  Source or PA version:?
