I got the code Roger...Did you use the code base I sent you on Friday.  If so, I will spend the tomorrow re-implementing the fixes and your code.  Thanks.

Rob, I don't think anyone else is reporting this issue...I have run it on my local dev. pages and on my site (www.avanced.net) and get no script error....BTW, the settings page uses no Javascript...so I would suspect you've got some other issue going on.

Hi Alan,

"gderosa" reported that he had the same issue as I have, so I assumed it must be related to the module. I test modules constantly every day and this is the only module that gives me this error. That said, it could of course always be related to something else. I've done all the usual things such as disable all performance options and remove all third party additions in the web.config.

I also thought that pasting the error and the location in the source in might trigger a comment as to what it could be... the error is after all pointing to a line in the Events module settings... as far as I can tell anyway? I'm no developer, but surely there must be a clue in the error message and the line it points to.. or is it just stating garbage?

I'll go and install from scratch to test it once again.

Rob

Hello again,

I have now confirmed the error in a fresh DNN451 installation as follows:

  1. Location: Webhost4life Advanced VPS account - runs very well.
  2. Create SQL2005 db
  3. Upload DNN451 Install files
  4. Set permissions
  5. Run installer
  6. Select no other modules to install
  7. Installation completes flawlessly
  8. I immediately install the current Events module beta and add it to a new page
  9. I immediately go into module settings
  10. And IE7 reports the same error: Line 1696, char 39, Error: Expected ';'
  11. Checking in Firefox 2 with the Error Console open reports:

Error: missing ; before statement
Source File:
http://robax.mysite4now.net/Home/Events/tabid/54/ctl/Module/ModuleId/370/Default.aspx
Line: 1698, Column: 38
Source Code:
var dnn_ctr370_ModuleSettings_Settings.ascx_rvTimeInterval = document.all ? document.all["dnn_ctr370_ModuleSettings_Settings.ascx_rvTimeInterval"] : document.getElementById("dnn_ctr370_ModuleSettings_Settings.ascx_rvTimeInterval");

That's 100% fresh DNN451 and fresh Events module beta with all at defaults and nothing else touched. Looks like a bug to me.

As before, I can provide host access to this if needed.

Regards,
Rob

Interesting.  If indeed it is that line of code, this is a generated line from .NET 2.0 rendering code.   Also, if it's that line, this is the happening on the 1st control for the module settings.  It could have something to do w/a name collision.  However, I and others running  the module are not getting the error.  How does it react using IE 6.0 and other browsers?  Could this be a browser issue (since the error is thrown by the browser)?

It does it in IE6, IE7 and FF2 for me and funnily enough, the previous non-beta version of Events also does it.

I've emailed (at the email address on your avanced.net site) you a host login for the site so you can have a look. Let me know if it happens for you. In Firefox you need to enable Tools\Error Console to view it.

Regards,
Rob
