I am curious as to how the Events module is really supposed to work.

For instance, I have an upcoming events page with an event module on it. If I want to show the same events, but on a Home Page with a Small calendar view, what is the best way to do that?

If I shadow it and then set it to Small view, it changes the other page to Small as well, which is what I expected, but I thought I would test it out.

So how could I put the same events on two pages with different skins? That seems like a reasonable requirement but I am not sure if or how it could work.

You'll need a second instance of the Events module for your small calendar, and make it use the big one as master calendar: in the Event Module Settings > SubCalendars Settings of the small calendar, check "Include Other Site Event Modules?" and add the big calendar from the drop down list. Then you can configure the two module instances indepentently.
