I've notied that there is an option to disable categories in the beta.  When you disable categories the drop-down is still visable when creating events.  Has anyone ever though to removing the drop-drop when categories is disabled??

The Disable Category has as the effect on the removal of the Category selection box from the view forms (Month, Week, List), not from the Edit form. This is mentioned by the tooltip in the settings as well: "Selecting disables the category selection on all view forms."

This is the intended working.

Category is not essential in creating events, nor in the view. So you can leave this field empty when editting an Event.

I was only pointing out that perhaps in a future release this could be modified.  It cleans up the UI, which is better for end users who may be confused why there is a category selector with no options.
