Taken from Gemini here - DNNP-8489

In the Events Module 4.0 it’s not possible anymore to change the Control Source. If I change the control Source it still loads the default control.

Can you provide more information on what you are trying to achieve? Are you writing extra controls that you want to use through the basic module framework?

As far as I can see Alan added the checking in version 3.3.7 (in April 2007), to validate a known control was being used (it's not paths that have been hardcoded, but control names). I assume this was to deal with some sort of known issue.

I'm guessing you are just going through an upgrade from an earlier version to version 4.0.2, which has the same code.

The team could certainly look at mechanisms for allowing custom controls to be used with the module as it stands now.

What I often have to change is the format of the event begin/end DateTime to just show the date. This change gets lost after each upgrade.

<asp:Label ID="lblEventBegin" runat="server" Text='<%# format(DataBinder.Eval(Container.DataItem,"EventTimeBegin","{0:d}")) %>'>

I can see what you are trying to do here, and I do the same thing on my site. However, I take an alternative view, that this change of date format is a very minor change to an ascx file, whilst upgrading that same ascx file with all the changes between versions is a much more major exercise. Between version 3.3.8 annd 4.0.2 we implemented over 50 fixes/enhancements. The same level of change is planned from 4.0.2 to 4.1.0 and includes many changes to the ascx files.. Therefore I'm not convinced that the way you are tackling this is the optimal way of doing it, but that is your choice.

I'm perhaps more interested in the idea that people are creating whole new controls to use within the event module framework, and we could potentially look at a way of enabling this. Not sure how it would be done, but it is a possibility.

Let me know youw view.

Cheers
Roger

Cause: Someone made the paths hard-coded.

Please find another way doing this. I need this "feature" to ensure customized stuff doesn't get lost during module updates.

Thanks.
