I'm using Calendar Module 3.2.0.

What screen do I use to create a sub-calendar?

Also...how do categories work? I am doing a church website, so I've created a "Youth" category and have flagged several events in the calendar as "Youth." But, am I able to actually query the calendar module on my "Youth" page to display only these events? Or would the "sub-calendar" be a more appropriate way for me to accomplish this?

Thanks!

The cool thing about the events/calendar modules (as other DNN modules)...you can drop multiple instances of a module on different pages (and even on the same page, in the case of the Events Module).  Through the use of DNN security, when User "A" hits the page, they can be authorized to see Module Instance 1...when User "B" hits the page they can be authorized to see Module Instance 2.

So, with the new Events module, you can drop 2 or more instances on the site/page.  Instance 1 can be setup as a Master Event/Calendar module...using the "Settings" (check the Master Calendar checkbox and select another Calendar Instance) an Administrator for the site can point to another Event/Calendar instance...and have the events from that instance included in Instance 1.  After this is done Events posted on Event/Calendar Instance 2 will automatically be available on the Master Event/Calendar Instance...In this way, you can "rollup events" from one instance to another!

This feature will allow you to create a "Youth Group Calendar" and a "Choir Calendar"...along with other sub-organization calendars.  Then you can "Roll them Up" to present a "Church Events" calendar.  Using the DNN security, the "Youth Group Leaders" will only be authorized to post events on the "Youth Group Calendar"...other sub-groups can access their respective Calendars.  A Master Calendar can then present a non-editable view to all members!

Thanks for the quick and informative reply! That was exactly what I needed.

I created a "master" calendar page and inserted the first instance of the Calendar module.

And then, on my "Youth" page, I inserted another instance of the Calendar module and gave it a different name.

When I went back to module on  the "master" calendar page, I could then "roll in" the Youth Calendar.

Pretty slick!

Hi

Is there a way to prevent the sub calendar from appearing in the master calendar?  For example following the earlier question, If I put an event in the youth calendar for skating party, the master calendar will show skating party and (youth Calendar).  Is there a way to customize the master calendar to only show only sub calendar events without the sub calendar in ()?

Thanks for any help you can give on this.

Jerry

Ya know, I noticed this too... and what I did to compensate was make the name of the subcalendars very small.  I'm working on a police organization website with each department having its own calendar...

So instead of putting a long name on each calendar, like "Richland County Events" or "Richland County Sheriffs Department Events," I just put RCSD as the name of the calendar...

Repeat that for each department, Training, etc and you get events with short but descriptive names in () so you know who/what the event pertains to, without taking up a HUGE amount of room...

Then again - i've turned the container off on almost all of my calendars... so the short names never show on the calendar themselves... just on the aggregate...
