Release 5.1.4 is an excellent release of the Events module. Obviously, a lot of attention has been devoted to this version.

One feature I am not clear on is the one listed as "Ability for sub calendars to filter by category". I do not see an option under the Subcalendars section of the settings to select which categories you want to display on the master calendar.

Basically, what I'm trying to do is to limit which events from the sub calendars are displayed on the "master" calendar on my site. So, imagine a team sports site where each team has their own calendar. I am displaying events from all the team calendars into a calendar for the entire organization. This particular calendar also has events that pertain to the organization. What I'm trying to do is to simply limit which events are listed on the master calendar from the sub calendars (individual team calendars).

Ideally, I'd be able to select which category (or categories) from the team calendars I want displayed on the master calendar. For instance, I only want to view Tournament and Bing Schedule events, not any other event type. If need be, i can create a category called "Organization" so that if you want a particular event to roll up to the master calendar, you select that category. This selection, of course, would be mandated by the Subcalendars setting of the master calendar. Optimally, a multi-select listbox would be displayed allowing you to select all the categories of events to display on the master calendar.

Does this make sense to anyone, and is there a way to currently do this?

Thanks in advance - Joel

Hi Joel,

Yes you can filter by a single category. The option is in the General Settings section of the module settings. It isn't under sub-calendar because it doesn't just apply to events from sub-calendars :-)

You may wish to review the description of the module settings available here - http://dnnevents.codeplex.com/wikipage?title=Descripition%20of%20the%20Events%20Module%20Settings&referringTitle=Documentation

This does not not support multiple categories at this time, but if requested via CodePlex, could get into a future release.

Cheers
Roger

Roger,

Thanks for the quick response! However, I do not want to filter the events to a certain category on the master calendar. I want to be able to view all the event types that are directly posted to the master calendar module, but only a particular category (categories, eventually) posted on the sub-calendars.

For instance, on the master calendar, I don't want to see when someone on a sub-calendar is having a birthday party, but I do want to see when someone on that sub-calendar is having a tournament, for instance.

Did I properly explain the distinction of how we should be able to filter out categories of sub-calendars versus the master (in other words, parent) calendar?

Joel

So from what I understand you want to be able to filter:-
  • From sub-calendar A - categories 1, 2 & 3
  • From sub-calendar B - categories 2, 4 & 5
If this is what you are after, the module does not currently support this. Again, feel free to add a request on CodePlex.

Cheers
Roger

Yes, exactly! I think it would be a very useful feature for all.

I will add the request on CodePlex, referencing this forum posting.

Thanks again,
Joel
