Hi;
Either i'm a bit confused or there is something wrong with the way in which event notifications work. Here is what happens:
- When a regular user enrolls for an event, requests a reminder but is never confirmed, he never receives a reminder. (That's what i would expect)
- When a regular user enrolls for an event, requests a reminder but is confirmed AFTER the specified reminder time, he does not seem to get a reminder (Not what i woul expect!)
- When an administrator enrolls for an event, requests a reminder say 2 days ahead, he is immediately confirmed and receives the notification immediately. No reminder in two days. (Not what i expect)
- WHen a regular user enrols for an event and requests a reminder an entry is made in the EventsNotification table. The 'Notification Sent'' field is set to zero and the time for the notification to be sent is correctly set. Still, no notification appears to be sent when that time arrives even when the 'EventsApproved' field in the EventsSignups table has been set to 1 subsequent to the enrollment but separate from the moderator approval. (This is done internally by a special procedure) - Don't know what to expect here as it is separate from 'standard' approval.

I would expect the reminder to be send as long as the user has been approved by the time is is to be sent. I would not expect a reminder to be sent prior to the specified time regardless of whether it is a regular user or an administrator.  [The reminder should not be coupled to the approval, i believe.]

Any help or advice regarding this is appreciated.

Hans

Hi Hans,

I think you are trying to see a relationship between enrolments and notifications that doesn't exist. These are completely separate.

Enrolments produce a set of emails going through the enrolment and approval process when somebody signups to an event.

Notifications are purely based on whether somebody requests one via the detail view. If the notification isn't being sent, event though you can see it in the EventNotification table, then make sure the DNN Events scheduled process is running in the Host/Schedule menu.

Cheers
Roger

Hi Roger;
Glad to hear that there is no relation between enrollments/approvals and reminder notifications. I did not expect them as such. Checked the events schedule and it is running.

See one quirk which may have led me to my observations. I registered twice for the same event. Two different users which both have the same email address (testing!) Only one entry in the EventsNotifications table. When i cancel the enrollment for one of these two, the EventsNotification table entry is removed.

Am retesting with two different users having different email addresses.

Hi again;
Looks like the problem goes deeper.
- As stated previously, if two people have the same email and both sign up for an event and one subsequently cancels, neither will be reminded.
This, although not serious I think, does happen as husband and wife frequently have different logins but the same email.
- The reminder seemed to have been sent if i look at the EventsNotification table. However, it was never received. So i tried different things:

- Tried to send an Newsletter to same email address (my own, which is a gmail address) It does not arrive. Neither does the bulk mail notification.
- Newsletter seemed to work only from a different user address and to different other user addresses. Worked also from different gmail address.

I have several usernames which have this same gmail user address, including the host account. Can this be the problem?

Have no idea where the problem lies, but it looks like Events is at least trying to send something.

Hi Hans,

Well EventNotifications is keyed on email address, so will not add multiple requests for same email. However I'm not aware of a way for someone cancel a notification.

If you refer to Enrolments when you say Sign Up, then EventSignups is keyed on userid, so should one user should not be affected by another canceling.

I guess you need to investigate your email send. You should be able to check the event log to see if the events module has tried to send an email - it reports how many it sends.
