Hi there,

I'm currently using Invenmanager Events Calendar & Registration but am considering moving to the DotNetNuke Events module. I tried to figure out if this will be possible for me with the existing documentation, but there are a few things that weren't really clear to me:

In the module I'm currently using, each event can be assigned to one or more categories. This is quite useful because I have a categorization on different levels used for filtering (e.g. I have categories for certain locations as well as certain people, so someone who looks for events that a specific person organizes can use that category, while someone who looks for all events in a certain location could use that category).

Another issue that's somewhat important is to be able to make events visible or invisible to user groups based on categories. There are a couple of internal events assigned to the respective category that only people from a certain group should be able to see.

Finally, I need to be able to have a list of events of a specific category in a module on a separate page. The use case for this is having a page for each person that organizes events and have a list of events for that specific person (= category) on their page.

Are these things possible already or planned?

Sunny regards,
Jashan

Hi Jashan,

As I've have stated an another post, we do not support multiple categories per event.

You cannot currently secure by category, though you could achieve the same effect by use of sub-calendars which can be secured. So assign a category (or categories) to a sub-calendar which is secured to the right group, then role these up into a master calendar which will then only show events from the sub-calendars the user is entitled to see.

Equally you can use sub-calendaring for your final use case, by filtering specific categories onto a specific module. However that isn't automated, so there would be no automatic link between person and category.

Cheers
Roger

I found a few feature requests related to this:

Filter by Category/Location/Keyword

Category hierarchy

Manage event visibility through Categories tied to Security Roles

Having those implemented would be really really awesome ;-)
