I am using the event module for groups and have the settings set for social groups. (The private flag is not set).

I want anyone in the group to be able to add an event but it appears that only the group owner can add new events. If I set the module permissions to registered users, than everyone can see and add events for a group they don't belong to. And what if I want to only have the group event detail visible to those in the group?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Carl

Let me have a look on Saturday. Pretty sure you should be able to do what you want, but I forget how social groups work. Isn't there a security group behind the social group? In theory if you put the calendar on a social group page, you should only be able to see events for the social group you are accessing, so giving edit events permissions to registered users shouldn't give access to all events only those of the page they are accessing...

I think that's how it should be.

Hi Roger thanks for the reply

Yes the events are specific to the group so that works ok. But in terms of permissions it appears that only the group owner is able to add events. If I set permissions for registered users to be an event editor, then any registered user can see and add events even if they do not belong to the specific group. So I don't have to be a member of any group but I am able to add events if I am a registered user. It would make sense that there would be permission options for group events to be added and/or visible by either the group owner only or group members (including the owner).

Hi Carl,

Just so I understand your scenario, I assume you have created a security group of people who can create groups and have given this group edit or moderator access to the Events module as well. I also assume these are public groups probably with Review New Member setting enabled.

Can you confirm these assumptions and then I'll go forward from there. I'm thinking the security model built into the module for social groups may need some tweaking....

Hey Roger here's a go at describing the scenario

There is a Role Group called Social Groups that DNN creates for social groups. When a group is created a role is created under the role group "Social Groups".

Scenario:

I am a registered user and I join 2 groups "BIKING" AND "RACING" as a result, I am added to 2 roles the BIKING role and RACING role. I am not the group(s) owner. When I go to the biking group (I am in the biking role) and view events, I expect to see events just for the biking group (Which I do. The module works correctly here). However, as a member of the group I want to post an event. But it appears that only group owners can create events.

In terms of module permissions, I can't assign role permissions to the specific role like BIKING as 1. It doesn't show group roles in the role list and 2. The module works off of groupid so if I set the module permissions to BIKING then no other group could add events. If I give edit permission to registered users than any user can add events even if they are not in the group role of say biking.

So

1. The group owner should be able to assign edit permissions to either just owner or group members.

In terms of showing events to just people in the group, the console module handles this on the module level. You can set the permissions in the console to show a module to admin, public, members or owner. This this case if you are not a member you would not see the events module listed in the console menu.

Hope this makes sense and I thank you for your efforts with this module!

Carl
