Hello everyone,

I am new to DNN and been trying to wrap my head around it for the past 3-4 months...

we hired a developer who installed 05.00.01 on the server... He quit, so now I am stuck with the development...

Some of the modules I purchased suggest upgrading to 5.2 for full functionality.  server is semi-dedicated ASP NET 3.5

I installed DNNBAckup and made a file and database backups... copied the 2 zip files from the server to my harddrive...

what else should I do before proceeding with the upgrade...

also, what upgrade path do you guys propose?   direct to 5.2 or with an other versions?

Your help is truly appreciated...

Accepted Answer
  1. Verify that your backups of both file system and database are up to date and not corrupt.
  2. If you have installed any third party modules, confirm with vendor that they are compatible with DNN 5.02.02.
  3. Verify that your database is MS SQL Server 2005 or 2008 (standard or express) and NOT MS SQL Server 2000
  4. Since this appears not to be a live site, there should be no need to stop the site during upload of upgrade files.
  5. Upgrade directly to current version 5.02.02 using the upgrade package. You might want to wait for the release of 5.02.03 targeted around mid-February.

If you have any questions about the proceedure for performing the upgrade, please feel free to ask or check out some of the resources of this site for more details.

Thank you very much for the quick response. I am sure of all of the points you mentioned but how do I make sure that my backups are good for restoration? Also how does the upgrade process work? I am kinda afraid thatbid crashe the website and the would have to spend money on restoring it lol. Thanks again and in advance
