I have been recently tasked with updating a company site from 3.03.07 to 5.1+

I know I am going to have to setup through a few update / upgrade versions. For example taking version 3.03 to version 4.4 probably up to 4.7 then into 5.0. I know you can make larger jumps but I always seem to have issues doing so. I also have several vendor modules I need to test on the way up to ensure they are compatible. My question is where have they moved the older versions for download, also anything I might have forgotten when moving from version 3.03 to 4.4? I remember there was something that had to be watched for. I know asp.net version changed, which is fine, but still think there was something else. It has been a long time since I have had to roll up a site.

On a side note. There  are a few custom vendor modules : NMH-CSNews, NMH-CSAccouncements, etc. Anyone remember who put the NHM tag on their module pack? Want to see if I can get updated versions of the modules if they break during the updating.

In closing the company went with a dedicated host / server, but are unsure what sql option they want to go with. Will sql workgroup work for DNN?

Thank you all for the help.

I did manage to finally find where the legacy editions are for download.

The other questions still stand. :)

Glad to see you have identified the need to test your 3rd party modules during upgrade

Mitch Sellers has some great upgrade blogs:

SQL workgroup should work fine it contains the SQL2005 core.NOTE: This has not been officially tested internally at DNN! We test SQL Server 2005/2008 Express/Standard/Enterprise versions

Thank you for the links, good old mitchel. :)

Just FYI from what I can tell sql workstation is pretty much sql express without the size limits and a few more SSIS options, so I think I will be fine with using it.

Now if I can just figure out the vendor for my modules, or test to see if we even use those modules in the portal. Thank goodness I have dev box for this move.

Thank you for the help.

Update: I was able to take the site from version 3.3.7 up to version 4.6.0 to 4.9.5

When I go to make the move from 4.9.5 to any version of 5.0+ things go horrible. The upgrade processes perfect no errors or problems, however when I go to log into the site as host it fails over cookie issues, I tried changing cookie settings in browser, and a few other small things but nothing seemed to help. Is there something in the config file to look for? A strange part is if I log in as host with 4.9.5 and just close the page, make the move to 5.1.0 and open the page it keeps me logged in as host which is fine, but the control panel is very weird really stretched and controls all over the page, but I have access to everything. So it has to be with the login module and it not liking something in the upgrade. What it doesn't like I am not sure, it dings the codebehind in the authentication folder.

Beyond having to redo my skin and figuring out the how to get the control panel back to playing nice, I should be able to move to 5.0+ However, I have to get the login part working. I have tried cleaning browser cache and history, dumping cookies as well to make sure it wasn't something client side.

Any thoughts?

Thank you for the help.
