Hi Guys.

I hope i'm posting in the right section here.

We currently have about 10 portals in a working DNN 4.5.5 we have been order to upgrade this to the latest version available which i see is 05.03.02

Please note that the 10 portals are in fact live sites.

What i have so far.

A copy of DotNetNuke_Community_05.02.03_Install
A backup of all the files and folders found under the path for DNN this include the web.config (our live DNN site).
A backup for the SQL DB (our Live DNN DB).

Another duplicate DB connected to a copy of the above mentioned DNN site.
I've added an Alias via DNN as well as IIS, to a specific portal (upgrade.mydomain.com), if i browse to it the correct portal is displayed.

Question.
What do i do next?
What do i do with the files found in DotNetNuke_Community_05.02.03_Install folder?
I've noticed several sub folder in the Portals folder for the live DNN site do those have to remain there?

If anyone can point me in the right direction i would really appreciated it.
If more information is required please let me know.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Marcus,

Here's my Todo list when i am upgrading DNN site.

1) Backup

- Database
- DNN Files (mine is: C:\Inetpub\portal)

2) Download the latest DNN Upgrade Package (please check yours, i believe you've mentioned DotNetNuke_Community_05.02.03_Install. As of this writing : DotNetNuke_Community_05.02.03_Upgrade.zip)

3) Put DNN site offline

4) Extract all files from DNN upgrade package to DNN files (Replace all existing files)

5) Access the DNN site (Upgrade will be triggered automatically)

Thanks Orion.
I have done step 1
I have done step 2
Step 3 I’m not sure of, what about all the sub folders in the existing portal folder, this ranges from folder called 4 or 5 or 32?

Currently the upgrade file (DotNetNuke_Community_05.02.03_Upgrade.zip)also contains a portal folder but only has a _default folder in it.

Thanks.

I strongly suggest upgrading in 3 steps via DNN 4.6.2 and 4.9.5. you may follow this checklist: http://www.deutschnetnuke.de/AboutDotnetNuke/V3V4TippsTricks/Upgradedurchführen.aspx Note: upgrading from DNN 4.5.5 to 4..2 requires manually modifying web.config, subsequent upgrades don't

Hi guys, what's the update on this one?

I also have the same problem, although i haven't started upgrading. What's the real deal on this one?

I'm about to upgrade from 4.5.3 to 5.2 using the Source Upgrade, what's the best solution?

Do i have to upgrade from 4.5.3 to 4.9.5 first then to 5.2? or shall i automatically upgrade from 4.5.3 to 5.2?

yeah, i also have question on the Portals folder though, do I have to retain the existing folder since it contains many folders inside it(the portals) and the upgrade "portals" folder only contains default folder. I hope someone can enlighten me about it. Thanks a bunch!
