Upgraded sites do not automatically switch to "human friendly" urls. You can easily make the change in the site's web.config:

1. Find the following section in web.config:

<friendlyUrl defaultProvider="DNNFriendlyUrl">
      <providers>
        <clear />
        <add name="DNNFriendlyUrl" type="DotNetNuke.Services.Url.FriendlyUrl.DNNFriendlyUrlProvider, DotNetNuke.HttpModules" includePageName="true" regexMatch="[^a-zA-Z0-9 _-]"  />
      </providers>
    </friendlyUrl>

2. Add the highlighted attribute:

<friendlyUrl defaultProvider="DNNFriendlyUrl">
      <providers>
        <clear />
        <add name="DNNFriendlyUrl" type="DotNetNuke.Services.Url.FriendlyUrl.DNNFriendlyUrlProvider, DotNetNuke.HttpModules" includePageName="true" regexMatch="[^a-zA-Z0-9 _-]"  urlFormat="humanfriendly" />
      </providers>
    </friendlyUrl>
