Hi all

I wanted to upgrade my version 5.02 installation, but I had difficultly finding a specific set of instructions. I didn't rush into it, and it was only a minor upgrade to 5.04 - I eventually found some instructions that looked as if they might give the right procedure on the DNN web site, but unfortunately despite my efforts to be careful, I must have made the wrong choice. After the upgrade, no users could log in, not even the superusers. The instructions I had gave steps involving manually copying the machine key etc into the new web.config, but apparently this manual requirement is not correct after all, and perhaps this is why my upgrade failed. There is nothing remarkable about my existing DNN install, it only has one simple portal on it with just a couple of pages so far, and only standard modules that come with the vanilla install. Even so, I had to waste very many hours, as I even had to restore a backup of the SQL database, as the upgrade had changed the database schema so that 5.0 could no longer read the database. All in all it was a very unrewarding experience!

I'm wondering if somewhere there is a page providing very version-specific information about the correct upgrade procedure. If not, I sincerely think this is an important requirement, as I'm not sure I dare try an upgrade again otherwise, my first attempt was so unsuccessful and damaging!

Regards

I wrote up these instructions a while back for upgrading.

Let me know if that helps
