After several missed upgrades I had finally time to take care of some of my DNN portals... 2 of them are localhost and worked flawlessly. Previous upgrades went smoothly without errors but now every upgrade fails. No matter to what build (5.3; 5.3.1; 5.4; 5.4.1) to ANY buld after 5.02.03 DNN upgrade throws the same errors... re-downloaded the packages and reset the right security on the folders, even installed .NET framework 4, but nothing matttered.... same errors were throwed up by the installer ;(

What happens if you try to install one of those packages from the Host/Extensions page on 5.2.3? I imagine that is going to throw some specific errors that might help you track this down.

When manually installing the modules through host/modules then I get the following errors:

Installing Package File Messaging_01.00.00_Install:  Error!
Error reading the zip package - see below
StartJob Reading Installation Manifest file
Info Reading Package Manifest - Module - Admin.Messaging
Failure Install aborted - The module being installed is not compatible with your host application version ( an upgrade is required )


Installing Package File HTML_Community_05.02.00_Install:  Error!
The package is already Installed.


Installing Package File Taxonomy_01.00.00_Install:  Error!

Did you use the UPGRADE package to do the upgrade, or the INSTALL package? Those errors all look to be pretty straight forward so far?

I did use the UPGRADE package indeed... I did nothing didfferent then with other upgrades...
1. backup SQL
2. backup DNN folder
3. download the UPGRADE package
4. extract the UPGRADE package and copy over all the files to the DNN directory
5. run the website
