Additionally, this readme.txt file should give an explanation how to upgrade if you want to jump some upgrades. I tried to go from 5.02.02 to 5.04.02, nothing worked, I had to restart from scratch (luckily I had evotiva backup - whole day wasted - don't know what went wrong). Seemingly you have to do all the intermediate upgrades also. An example of such an explanation can be found at : http://www.willstrohl.com/Blog/EntryId/102/Suggested-DotNetNuke-Site-Upgrade-Path-s I QUOTE " This listing is subject to change. All installation and upgrade files can be downloaded from CodePlex. If your current version falls between any of the versions listed below, first upgrade to the version closest to yours. From Version To Version 02.00.04 02.01.02 02.01.02 03.01.01 03.01.01 03.02.02 03.02.02 04.03.07 04.03.07 04.04.01 04.04.01 04.06.02 04.06.02 04.09.05 04.09.05 05.00.01* 05.00.01* 05.01.04 05.01.04 05.02.03 05.02.03 05.04.01 * When upgrading to version 05.00.01, it is recommended that you immediately upgrade again to version 05.01.04. Mitchel - Assume that I know even less than the person above and am trying to upgrade from 5.02 to 5.04. What do you mean by "unzip the upgrade package over the top of your DNN installation"?

Thanks!

Jenny, it depends on your access to the server. if you have Windows file system access (on a local machine or using RemoteDesktop), you simply unzip the upgrade package hierarchically into the website folder, where DNN is installed, overwriting existing files. If you have remote access by FTP or WebDav, you need to unzip locally and transfer all files hierarchically onto the server. Make sure using the upgrade package not to overwrite essential files.

There are two ways I could use, BUT i didn't test them yet. 1. my host is running PLESK. This environment has a file manager that allows me to upload & unzip a zip file. This was the way I initially uploaded and installed the naked DNN version. 2. a very nice free tool I installed is called eXtplorer (from http://extplorer.sourceforge.net/ ). I installed it in a \ext directory on the webserver, and I install DNN in \dnn directory. Extplorer allows you tu upload and unzip a zip file the same way PLESK is doing it. CAVEAT : eXt is designed for apache etc and has some troubles with the difference between "\" and "/" on IIS based machines. After installation and modifying the admin password, the eXt system went ape and I had to edit a file called eXt\config\.htusers.php where I had to change in an array the value "f:\inetpub\vhosts\nck-cnc.be\subdomains\lid\httpdocs" to "f:/inetpub/vhosts/nck-cnc.be\subdomains\lid\httpdocs" . This modification had to be done by using the PLESK file manager & editor. From then on the eXt system works fine. The ideal would be a kind of 'install_update" functionality in DNN that automatically gets the next ZIP file from codeplex, unzips it, restarts the system etc. I am not volunteering to write that code, though. But a readme.txt file would be enough for me. Or a location where I could put such a readme.txt file where it would easily be found ?

I just ran the upgrade and received this error message:

Runtime Error

Description: An application error occurred on the server. The current custom error settings for this application prevent the details of the application error from being viewed remotely (for security reasons). It could, however, be viewed by browsers running on the local server machine.

Details: To enable the details of this specific error message to be viewable on remote machines, please create a <customErrors> tag within a "web.config" configuration file located in the root directory of the current web application. This <customErrors> tag should then have its "mode" attribute set to "Off".

<!-- Web.Config Configuration File --> <configuration> <system.web> <customErrors mode="Off"/> </system.web> </configuration>

Notes: The current error page you are seeing can be replaced by a custom error page by modifying the "defaultRedirect" attribute of the application's <customErrors> configuration tag to point to a custom error page URL.

<!-- Web.Config Configuration File --> <configuration> <system.web> <customErrors mode="RemoteOnly" defaultRedirect="mycustompage.htm"/> </system.web> </configuration>

Any suggestions?
