Hi DNN users,

I am trying to upgrade a DNN site to use DotNet Framework 4.0, however I can't seem to get it to work - any help would be appreciated.

Error -

404 - File or directory not found.

The resource you are looking for might have been removed, had its name changed, or is temporarily unavailable.

This only happens when the Application Framework is set to v4.0, if it is on 2.0 it works fine.
I have tried backing up my Db and Files.
Installing the latest version of DNN in a Framework 4.0 application folder (this is result)

I am developing apps in 4.0 as I use VS 2010 now, and would love to work out how to do this?
Any ideas?

Thanks, your help would be appreciated.

usually you upgrade framework during DNN upgrade and the upgrade installer takes care of it. If you switch to 4.0 without upgrading, you need to adopt a number of values in web.config manually.

If you don't want to make the web.config changes manually, you can use the XML Merge module to apply the Net40.config file which is located in the install/config directory of your DotNetNuke installation.  This will make all the necessary changes to the web.config file.  You will also need to make sure the apppool for the website is set to run ASP.Net 4.0.

Thanks but I tried this, and it didn't work at all, nothing really happens when I try to operate in the 4.0 env.

This could work, however I have simply set my projects to use v3.5 and it all seems to work fine. I will eventually move the system to v4.0, I downloaded the module and installed it on a older install, and it appears to work, however you need the .config file locally, and it doesn't ask for the usual source/ destination, so I presume it only updates the web.config, from a local file.

Hi Joe,

I am having a similar issue after upgrading a site 5.6.2 but I cannot find the Net40.config file that you mention.  I have looked in the install folder and I can only see 5 config files and none are called Net40.

You help is appreciated.

Thanks
Ginnie
